Games AchievementsOrcs Must Die Review: Tower Defense at Its Finest
Tower defense is one of the most popular genres in the video game world. Warcraft's Defense of the Ancients and Plants versus Zombies are the two most well received, beloved and popular from this genre. From then, video game publishers have cashed in to this niche gaming market. They try to mimic the success of these two titles. Thus we have so many tower defense titles in the mobile touch devices (on the iDevices specifically ) and on consoles (via the arcade service platform PSN/XBLA). Others have already achieved a similar popularity and one of this is the new xbox live arcade title Orcs Must Die. Orcs Must Die is a strategy game developed by Robot entertainment that gives a little twist to the popular tower defense genre by incorporating a hero. The setting is a medieval magical settings where orcs are their usual selves who just like to raid, destroy, and kill things (or people). The game is in the third person perspective and follows an apprentice to a once was powerful war mage whose sole purpose is to defend various fortresses from incoming hordes of invading orcs. Eventually this great warrior fell in battle and it is up to this unlikely hero to defend it from waves of seemingly mindless (in a way that they just rush directly at traps) orcs. The apprentice must strategically learn how to properly utilize (placing, choosing, and leveling up) various traps to defeat the incoming hordes of ruthless orcs. It won't be an addictive and good game without variation, strategy and increasing difficulty. As the players fend off wave after wave of orcs, he is prompted to level up traps which wouldthen be carried over to the next stages and must properly choose what to bring to the next level which may not be as much as effective from previous levels. Thus the strategy element.Check this interactive gameplay video of Orcs Must Die: With good graphics and high replayability Orcs Must Die is shaping to be another tower defense (popular) classic in the making. Orcs Must Die was released on Xbox Live Arcade on October 5, 2011 for 1200 Microsoft Points. Try out the demo first and see how you like it.
